Split Shot Weight

Here are our reusable split shot weights. They come in 4 sizes, #4, #5, #7, and #3/0. While all our jigs are made from a bismuth alloy, that isn't bendable enough for reusable split shot weights, so we make these from pure tin. Our bismuth alloy is so close to lead in weight that you don't need to worry about a difference. However, tin is quite a bit lighter than lead, so weight difference becomes a consideration with the split shot weights. The chart to the right shows the comparison with lead split shot weights of the same size.

Fishing Tip: Where we used to use the 1/16 oz #7 lead split shot the most, we now use the slightly heavier 1/13 oz #5 tin split shot. It works well 4 to 6 inches above a vertically fished 1/16 oz tube jig, as well as with a minnow fished the same way. It's also the perfect size weight to use with a minnow when you're bobber fishing, with one of those small foam bobbers. Because tin doesn't bend quite as easily as lead, you'll need to crimp a little harder to get it to hold on your line. The plus side is that it won't work it's way loose on your line as often as lead does.

Good fishing,
